Logistics and geography

Three corridors out of Kazakhstan: east by rail to China, west by rail to the European Union, and deep sea from the Baltic to the Mediterranean and North Africa.

Trade corridors

How cargo leaves Kazakhstan

Actual rail alignments and sea lanes, not a schematic. The three corridors below are the ones the company executes today.

Export corridors from Kazakhstan Map of Europe, North Africa and Asia. Two export corridors run from Kazakh grain elevators at Kostanay: east by rail through Astana and Aktogay to the Chinese border crossings at Dostyk and Altynkol; and west by rail on a single broad-gauge trunk that divides near the Baltic, one branch reaching the deep-water port of Port Vysotsky and the other Liepaja. From the Baltic berths cargo continues by vessel around Europe through Gibraltar to Tunis, and on round Sicily into the Adriatic to Bari. The corridors are also listed as text below the map. Transshipment at the deep-water Port Vysotsky takes vessels from 5,000 to 55,000 dwt, so the same cargo can serve small Mediterranean parcels and larger North African tenders.
